Sovereign grace and mercy works by command. God has given command to the Son to redeem His elect to which the Son has replied, "And as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do," (John 14:31) and "Behold, "I have come to do Thy will...O God." (Hebrews 10:7) He has given command to His Spirit to call His elect, "This is what the Sovereign Lord says, "Come from the four winds, O Breath (a figure for the Holy Spirit), and breathe into these slain that they may live."" (Ez. 37:9), and "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things..." (John 14:26) He has given command to His angels to protect His elect until such time as He shall gather His people to Himself, "For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways, they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. (Psalm 91: 11,12). And, God has given command to His people to come to His, a command they cannot resist, "...and those He predestined He also called." (Rom. 8:30) The commandments of the Old Covenant, though holy, just, and good, can only kill a sinner. But God's commandment of grace brings salvation, and that without fail!
