The Fellowship Of The Saints

The Fellowship Of The Saints

Ken Wimer

"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."–Heb. 10:24,25

Apart from my own personal worship and communion with the Lord Jesus Christ, there is nothing that I cherish more in this world than the fellowship of God's people.

When God calls out a people by His Gospel and eternal, sovereign grace, He brings them together in a common place, to fellowship in the love of Christ. There may be times when we assume other things are more important, but if we will consider the Scriptures, we know that nothing else is. As the children of God mature in this worldly pilgrimage, they come to realize that nothing in this world can give lasting satisfaction more than hearing the Gospel, communing with God's people, and looking to the corning again of the Lord of glory.

Let's not take this privilege for granted. Business people learn to prioritize their work between what is important and what is urgent. Believers also prioritize their time and energy, giving precedence to private worship, public worship, and fellowship with the saints. God our Father has purposed to give all preeminence to His Son. As called members of this great family, we join in to give all preeminence to Christ. 'And He is the head of the body the church.. that in all things He might have the preeminence" Colossians 1:18.

What Christ considers precious, His people will see as precious. Christ's church is precious to Him. He gave His life to redeem her, and sanctifies her with His blood, righteousness, Spirit, and Word, Ephesians 5:25-27.

If we belong to Christ, we belong to one another as members of one body, citizens of one kingdom, brothers and sisters in one household, priests in one temple, soldiers in one army, sheep in one flock. This being so, we give visible expression to this truth by faithful attendance to the Gospel, worship and fellowship with His people.
